District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC)
District Parent Advisory Council
The District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) meetings are an excellent opportunity for regular dialogue with the Superintendent (or designee) and district staff. Six diverse representatives from each of the three Area Parent Advisory Councils comprise the membership of DPAC; however, all parents or guardians are welcome to attend the meetings.

Please review the DPAC Charge Statement (PDF).

Area Parent Advisory Councils

Area Parent Advisory Council meetings provide parents an opportunity to meet with the district's associate superintendents who represent each area, parents from other neighborhood schools, and community leaders to:
  • Provide input concerning school-related issues.
  • Make recommendations in support of enhancing learning opportunities and environments.
  • Advocate for issues vital to the success of schools, youth, and families in their community.
Each Area Parent Advisory Council selects six people to represent them on the District Parent Advisory Council.

Which Area Parent Advisory Council meeting should I attend?

Individuals can either attend and area meeting in the zone they live in or where their child(ren) attends school.

Area Parent Advisory Councils (PAC’s) were created in order to involve parents in district policy discussions. PACs represent three geographic areas of the city:

DPAC Mission Statement:

The District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) is a parent leadership group that joins together district representatives to share perspectives with the Superintendent and Board of Education on policy issues. While other parent groups are school-based or community-based, DPAC offers district parents an opportunity to study and discuss district-wide challenges facing students and families in the Minneapolis Public Schools.

DPAC members are expected to bring district-related parent concerns from Area Council meetings and schools to the attention of the administration and Board of Education. DPAC discussions are aligned to School Board meetings and important issues brought by the Superintendent so that members can weigh in on policy developments with Board members and the Superintendent in a timely manner.

Because of DPAC's global perspective on district issues, it acts as an important checkpoint to gauge the equity and consistency of policies across all district schools. Finally, DPAC serves as a training ground for parents who are interested in developing leadership skills in the area of educational policy.
